Farming and Countryside Education

Promoting agricultural and environmental education is one of the RASE’s charitable objectives, and a cornerstone of our activities.

FACE websiteIn 2001 RASE and the NFU merged their education activities and formed FACE, with the aim of helping young people, wherever they live, to learn more about food and farming in a living countryside.

FACE now has 50 member organisations all committed to educational work associated with food, farming and the countryside.

A warm endorsement of FACE’s work came from the government’s Farming and Food Commission report, published in January 2002: ‘We welcome this recognition that coordinating resources is a more effective way of getting messages across. We hope that more industry bodies will join the FACE initiative and help make a real impact on information provided to schools.”

In its first few years FACE has achieved a great deal in terms of promoting and teaching on issues surrounding food, farming and the countryside. There is an ever increasing demand from within the sector for help and guidance.

New blood: what are your views on recruiting young people for agriculture?
